When you knew you were a foodie

When did you first realize that you were a foodie?Maybe you didn't even realize it at that time, it wasn't until later.

Here's mine. It was February 1973. I was 5 and 1/2 years old.I'd stolen the entire basket of corn bread from the dinner table and slunk off to the den, where I sat on the magazine rack and proceeded to begin eating said corn bread. In the picture I am wearing the devil suit that was part of my Halloween costume in 1972 and some bad ass sunglasses.

So. When DID you first realize that you were a foodie?

  2. I'm guessing the devil suit was very appropriate. :) I always liked food, but when I was on my own at around the age of 35, I started cooking just for the joy of it all, and learned how much fun it is to experiment.

  3. LOL....cornbread...mmmmm. I didn't realize I was a foodie until I was in my early 20's (although I think I was born one). I use to give cooking lessons to my dogs (who were very attentive students), while doing my best Julia Child impression.

  4. Too cute.

When I was 7 or 8, I would look out the kitchen window while doing dishes and I would pretend I had a cooking show. This is back in 77-78 and there weren't many on tv. I would talk about the recipe and how I would prepare it. It's funny to look back on that now but I truly loved talking about food, eating food and preparing food even then.

  5. Awesome picture - you have access to the best photo/memories!

I don't know when for sure. I think when my parents would get frustrated when I wanted to know the dinner schedual for the week (but my parents rarely plan past the day of for dinner). As for wings, when I was young, that's for sure.

  6. I just heard the stories of my foodie adventures at that age, they never caught me in action on film.

  9. a Big Green Egg buddy fwded me your blog. great stuff.

i'd say i've been a foodie for consumption since high school, but didn't actually start cooking as a foodie until entering the workforce (gah, if only someone warned me there was a better use of all that free time in college, than the library/homework!)

  10. I started simple cooking in my teens, but after I got married I found out my wife wasn't interested(or very good at it!) in cooking... I started cooking as a way to relax after day's work. Over the years I've added more dishes to my menus, and also have gathered over 250 cook books!

  11. I realized when I was about 15. I was in Greece and was blown away by an octopus sald. None of the other kids would touch it, but it was a revelation to me! GREG

PS I think we grew up in the same house becase that brick wall with book case looks mighty familiar!
