A heavy heart

I originally had not planned on posting her about this because I thought i had gotten in touch with everyone that needed to know.  But my mother encouraged me to post it because 1) it was apparent I had missed people and 2) she pointed out that many of you are friends of my family.

Monday morning, one or more spineless wastes of DNA murdered my sister's husband while he changed his flat tire just off of the interstate.   Here is a newspaper article about it.

Richard had just retired and was actually taking an interest in cooking.  He wanted to impress my sister by making one of my mother's roasts with all the fixings.  My mom took Richard to Publix and they bought everything he needed.  She gave him the crash course and left him with instructions.  That is the back story on the part in the article about asking whether to set the oven on bake or broil.

The outpouring from family and friends has been greatly appreciated.

For people in Jacksonville, viewing is tonight 6-8pm at Hardage Giddens at Beach Blvd.  Services are tomorrow morning at 11am at Chets Creek Church on Hodges Blvd.

Please keep my sister, my nephew, and family in your thoughts and prayers.

  20. Chris, wow, I am so sorry to hear. We are fortunate in that we will never understand the depravity it takes to commit such a random and cruel act of violence. I hope those responsible are caught and your family finds peace.

  36. I'm glad you posted this - the only thing your readers/friends can do at a time like this is to offer up some prayers - if we all said a prayer or two, well, that's a lot of people praying - that's bound to be of some help. Love to you and your family.

It sounds like your brother-in-law was an amazing man, and he was embarking on the next chapter in his life. 54. I stumbled onto your page via a recipe I clicked on from Pinterest. I was quite shocked, as I live in Jacksonville, and of course this story has been all over our local news. I was also born and raised in Brunswick, Georgia, which is where this happened. I wonder all too often, how any human being is able to take another human life? I mean, what goes through their mind, when they consciously decide to murder someone? And over what? A few dollars? I just don't get it. I'm so sorry for your family's loss. God bless.

  55. Oh wow I'm so sorry to hear this news Chris. I know I am pretty late but still want to offer my deepest condolences. He sounds like a great man. I can not fathom why anyone would do this. For money?! I hope they find the bastard(s) who did this and that your family finds some kind of peace. Thinking of you during these hard times.
