[FTC Standard Disclosure] We received no compensation for this post and paid full price for our admission tickets.

University of Tennessee's Institute of Agriculture is hosting its first Smoking School on June 19th, 2021. It will be held at the arena for the Brehm Animal Science Building.

  • The school will be taught by George Ewart. George is an architect in Knoxville, he is the co-owner of Dead End BBQ and his team won the Tennessee State BBQ Championship in 2007-2008.
  • Sponsors include Tennessee Beef Council, Tennessee Pork Producers Association, Bush's Beans, and Dead End BBQ
  • The class will cover brisket and pork ribs, but I know George will also likely cover sides as well.
  • The class costs $100 per person and there are only 50 spots available.

Here are the details from the school:

The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture will be hosting a Smoking School on June 19, 2021. The goal of this school is to help people better understand the techniques for successful smoking of their favorite meats, to be able to enjoy the process, and share with friends and family.

The event will be held in the Brehm Animal Science Building Arena starting at 8 am to 1 pm EST. The cost to attend is $100 limited to 50 registrations. Pandemic guidelines must be followed.

Mr. George Ewart, owner of Dead End BBQ and award-winning pitmaster, will be leading the school.  Mr. Ewart is an architect by training, but his love for smoking allowed him to win several awards at regional and national pit master competitions. With his help, we will be teaching how to smoke pork ribs and beef brisket.  If you are interested in honing your smoking skills, make plans to attend this unique event.

If you have any questions about the school or registration, please contact: Dr. Gary Bates P: 865-974-7324

George's classes tend to be more hands-on than most. This is a shot from a rib class in 2011.

This should be a day full of smoke, fun, and food. I hope we see you out there.
